“I remember being asked to do a film around the same time and I was like, I have to get adjusted to who I am now,” the Oscar-winning actress told “Behind the Music.” “I can’t be another character if I don’t know who I am.

"... he admits that ambition made him do it."
Mary C. Curtis’ take on Senator Robert Byrd.
Byrd not only had to join, he had to recruit 150 others for the Klan. He brought neighbors and friends into his personal, political compromise. I wonder about the sales pitch he used to convince them? And once he completed his conversion to the cause of equal rights, did he go back and tell the 150 recruits that he was wrong, and was he as...

CIA DIRECTOR PANETTA: Well, I can’t speak to obviously intelligence operations, and I won’t. It’s enough to say that clearly, they have had problems. There are problems with regards to their ability to develop enrichment, and I think we continue to urge them to engage in peaceful use of nuclear power. If they did that, they...

Taking on Apple; American Apparel—Gawker grows up?
so it would seem:
This is the media word we now live in: The former playground bullies of the blog world have gone national, even global, and Establishment media players and marketers have no choice but to reckon with them, given that they’re flush with cash and attract massive audiences. As always, it is more than a bit scary to watch playground bullies grow up and really start to...

okay. but: duh.
While some theater critics and rival producers have derided “Memphis” as a conventional show and have spurned its story of racial reconciliation as simplistic, the musical’s success at building a black audience is anything but business as usual for Broadway.

Trying not to be cynical. It was during a performance of MJ’s “Man In the Mirror.” The lyrics: “Gonna make a change, for once in my life.”
More later.
Update via AP
Then, as Brown grabbed a microphone to sing “Man in the Mirror,” he broke down in tears. His voice cracked, he couldn’t sing, and at one point he crumpled to the stage in apparent...

The Idea That "Neutrality" in Media Exists: Can...
This whole tempest in a teapot at the WaPo is just that: hot air. Over at Andrew Sullivan’s spot, a reader is over it. I’ve been over it.
End result: a perverse culture that values manufactured or feigned neutrality above all else, endless “he said/she said” reporting, and a mainstream media that is afraid to actually let its own reporters use their brains.
