The impediments to climate action in the U.S. are primarily structural and systemic; systems thinking, not Romantic tales of individual heroism, is what’s needed.

John Kerry…In Markey, the race pits a longtime liberal politician known for environmental advocacy against Gomez, a…social moderate with a distinguished biography and untested political skills. …Becker crisscrossed the globe, from the beaches of Sri Lanka to the game reserves of sub-Saharan Africa, from the vineyards of France to America’s national parks, measuring the impact of the tourist trade. And while she finds plenty of inspiring examples of wise governance and corporate responsibility, in many other cases greed and shortsightedness have ruined once-pristine environments, exacerbated human misery and destroyed the spontaneity that once made travel an adventure.

If we do not act to curb climate change immediately, we will leave our children and grandchildren an unrecognizable planet…It is the poor, those least responsible for climate change and least able to afford adaptation, who would suffer the most.
