ABC has given a pilot order…based on Eddie Huang’s memoir…set in the ’90s and revolves around a Chinese family that moves to suburban Orlando. (Huang’s real-life family is Taiwanese.) It centers on hip-hop-loving Eddie, raised by an immigrant father who is obsessed with all things American and an immigrant mother who is often bewildered by white culture.

'In the aftermath of 9/11, Bush officials attempted to deflect criticism that they had ignored C.I.A. warnings by saying they had not been told when and where the attack would occur.'

That is true, as far as it goes, but it misses the point. Throughout that summer, there were events that might have exposed the plans, had the government been on high alert. Indeed, even as the Aug. 6 brief was being prepared, Mohamed al-Kahtani, a Saudi believed to have been assigned a role in the 9/11 attacks, was stopped at an airport in Orlando, Fla., by a suspicious customs agent and sent back overseas on Aug. 4. Two weeks later, another co-conspirator, Zacarias Moussaoui, was arrested on immigration charges in Minnesota after arousing suspicions at a flight school. But the dots were not connected, and Washington did not react. Could the 9/11 attack have been stopped, had the Bush team reacted with urgency to the warnings contained in all of those daily briefs? We can’t ever know. And that may be the most agonizing reality of all.

The contract extension that the Magic recently offered Dwight Howard looms in the air, clouding the future. Howard remains non-committal. ‘I can’t answer that,’ Howard told the Sentinel when asked whether he would sign the extension. ‘I mean, I love Orlando. I don’t want to leave.’ Um.

Supposedly the top 25 worst neighborhoods in the USA. Randomly:
1. Cincinnati, Ohio [Central Pky./Liberty St.]
25. Chicago, Illinois [Winchester Ave./60th St.]
23. Orlando, Florida [East-West Expy/Orange Blossom Trl.]
18. New York, NY [St. Nicholas Ave./125th St.]
12. Dallas, Texas [2nd Ave./Hatcher St.]
7. Memphis, Tennessee [Warford St./Mount Olive Rd.]
3. Miami, Florida [7th Ave./North River Dr.]
Chicago has four neighborhoods mentioned, though the city seems to be experiencing a small drop in crime. The whole list, here. This via Booker Rising, which has links to conservative responses to the list. It seems most of the neighborhoods on the list are black and/or Hispanic areas. Needless to say, the areas are poorer, money-wise and services-wise than many others.

[suing his child’s mother for $500 million] Dwight Howard has had it up to here.

Orlando Magic star claims his baby mama Royce Reed — who stars on VH1’s “Basketball Wives” — leaked dirt about him to the media at least 11 times … thus violating a 2009 gag order.
